The Hallway

Like Alice stepping through the looking glass, entering the haven of Talbot House was to leave the hell of rat-infested trenches.

Tubby placed a large notice in the hallway. On it was a hand pointing to the street and directing all pessimists firmly out the door. He was keenly aware that although Talbot House had a serious religious side, it was equally about bringing people together and helping them to forget the War for a short time.

Friendship was a crucial part of life at Talbot House, whether that meant bumping into old friends or meeting new ones. There was even the chance to get in touch with those you hadn’t managed to meet this time through the Friendship Board.
