The Library

Because the atmosphere in Talbot House was often loud and lively, space was set aside for those who wanted some peace. Tubby gave up his sitting room to create a quiet area where letters could be written, books read or thoughts explored.

There was also a small Library - which Tubby described as more of a large cupboard crammed with books! However despite the fact that books were stamped with orders like ‘Do not scrounge’, the borrowing system didn’t always work and many were only returned after the war, when they were posted home from destinations as far afield as Canada and Australia.
