Explore London and Raise Money

19 Jul 2007
Each year Toc H holds a sponsored walk around the City of London. In the past the themes have been The Great Fire and The London Water-Couse and many more. This year we are taking you to 26 sites - one for each letter of the alphabet although there is no need to walk them in alphabetical order!

Our alphabet starts with Artillery and eds with a Zeppelin attack, but between these military references there is a rich mixture of different places and events in London. The course is mainly in the east half of the City, but also goes as far north as Bunhill Fielsd Burial ground in Finsbury, and as far east as Brick Lane in Spitalfields.

As well as the alphabetical theme there is a sub-text; modern sculpture. At or between these sites there are a dozen or more exciting pieces of modern sculpture, some abstract and some movingly lifelike.

The aim is to raise money for Toc H and we achieve this in two ways. Walkers who wish to walk for fun - or to raise money for another charity - we ask to pay a £5 fee. Those walking to raise money for Toc H (locally or centrally) may walk for free. Whichever you decide to do you can be sure of a fun day out. If you apply and send your fee (if appropriate) and nearer the time you will be given a map, a blank sponsor form and details about each site to be visited. On the day you will be given a set of questions, one to be answered at each site and by your replies to these the organisers will know that you have completed the course and will sign any sponsor forms accordingly.
